A relevant question to ask this time of the year is what your goals are and what systems you need to implement to stay focused and on track. In his book “Atomic habits” James Clear makes the statement that our self-control is only as good as the systems we implement. Systems only work when they become habits and our habits flow from our beliefs.
It is therefore important to examine our beliefs and distinguish which are limiting and standing in our way of getting to our goals and to become more of the person we need to be to fulfill our potential and be successful, what ever success means for us.When we know what our limiting beliefs are, we can eradicate them and replace them with new beliefs that will enable us to reach whatever we aim for.
We call these “table top beliefs”, because in order to deeply ingrain these beliefs, we need to build reference”legs” or “evidence ” that support this belief. For instance, if you want to replace a limiting belief with an enabling one it could be like this:
” I don’t have confidence to use my talents” – write this belief down and then write the opposite : “I do have plenty of confidence to use my talents and I know I can be successful”.
How do I know this? ( Build reference legs for your new table top belief):
My friends always remark on how my hobbies are more than hobbies and that I am so talented that I could turn it into full time jobs.”
” even when I was little, people always said I should use my artistic talents more because my work is so unique.”
“Someone mistook the painting in my entrance hall for that of a famous artist and was very impressed when they heard it was my work.”
People love the work I produce as gifts so they must be good enough to sell…”
You can carry on adding reference legs to this table top belief and the more evidence you get the stronger this belief will get.
Lets all make this the year we banish our limiting beliefs and build a new successful life by only nurturing those beliefs that serve our goals.
